You know that’s an awfully big table

Two tribes

One before the other one

Two cries

Of galore, one before the other one

Soon we see light

Down corridors

And open doors

Entrance from my mother's son

Ease into daylight

Into the workman's lot

Here before dawn

Here beyond dusk

Twin sights

Straight down the smoking gun

Moon nights

Curled up toes in winter’s sun

Maybe we might

Like clover come

In the hand-held plight

Of time undone

Say no more

Let us shout galore

Dolores; call for Delacroix

That’s all this time, dear boy

This time it is time to go

The book talks about finding that place

Of the unknown

This is my kind of book, sensitive sentiments

Which wash over my toes on into my bloodstream

In meditation or religion or sacred sacrifice

A quiet moment, a creeping of the nape hair

Yesterday through the window, through the mirror

The lost lonely face in touch with her own unknown

Should I interrupt, would that have been to care

Somehow instructed I drove on, and onwards

I did not leave you, you are with me

I do not grieve for you, please believe me

I open the post, an invitation to the resurrection

Unlike most, I have been there, I carry you easily

I wiggle my toes, perfectly formed within

I know no sin, I smile deep and knowing

You will never return to hold my hand

Yet forever you will be beside me

Mistaken me for someone else

The last of the blue sky is covered

By the advancing grey

The dry ground devoid of rain spots

Endless days that fade away

Some people would mope and moan

At such blessed bad luck

While some couples would read exotic verse

And say fuck, fuck, oh bless me fuck

They of course are the irreverent

Should they not be out fighting wars

Our society, ever so so benevolent

To have so so many open doors

Would you really arrive at these shores

Under grey sky and raindrop

Would you travel from a fairer clime

Unless your time was about to stop

Even then

Just to share this endless day

And only by an inch alive

Yet you celebrate as you say "lay lady, lay"

I asked the way and this was her reply

So this is how I see the inside

With one eye on the second chance

Think on of the good stuff

The greens, the rye, the chicory, the tea

Displace the alcohol, the tablets

And the mean streak of self-inclusion

The confused latent mind needs to re-engage

To find a point from where to begin

To find its own clean sheet of paper

Its own still wilderness to walk in

At the fresh time of dawn, barefoot

On the dewdrops, under the last of the stars

Listen to the bloods circulation

Feel the tingle; the numb spots, the cringe

Of closed veins, there like the potholer caught

In the deepest darkest cavern

As the oversized trout slides down

The hungry heron's throat; gulp, catch

Another breath, it's far too soon

To even think of letting go

This one's a song so sing it

I quite specifically

Made time for you and me

I waited patiently

For the anniversary of our love

In my mind so certainly

I see you sailing free

Indeterminately

Among the sparkling sea of our love

That night we talked till ten

That night remember when

Your arms around me meant

The subtle scent of our love

I quite specifically

For sure so certainly

Made time for you and me

No doubt to see the memory of our love

Still tight we walked again

That night September sent

The lamp posts and verandah's leant

All aboard the firmament of our love

My mind meanders when

I try to think again

The rain and sun light vent

Summer festivals in the tent

Hold on to the all of our love

In times return to sender sent

Your letters back to me

For sure uncertainly

You had gone away

Stayed beyond the day

Laid so far away

Of our love

I quite specifically made time for you and me

I rang around the anniversary

Sold tears to set the soldier free

He never ever would be me

So quite specifically

My cry was easily

So certainly

Always of our love

Barefoot over cold concrete flags

I've almost forgotten how to do this

It's been a few days away

Tied up with other observations

Broken down tractors and the like

And anyway this pamphlet is itself

Close to the final page

Closure of a point in time

An age almost done

I sit outside in the garden

Wipe the sleep from my eye

This time it is not yet time to go

I move in all manner of directions

Restless some might say

Anyway

You lay in the sun, it's what you do

Not of course

That I wouldn't turn my hand

To footsteps in the sand

And champagne, uncorked

The other day

I heard the strains of Mantovani; Blue Moon

From a further room

Anyhow I must go now, the honeymoon is over

And yet

Our time together has not even begun

We've many more adventures

Laughter and kisses to share

The words are only pretence

Only here do I dare

To talk of a time

Without you
