Ebb

In a craft
A neglected rowing boat
On a tributary
A good way from the sea

He gives his arm
Steadies her uneasy step
From the shallow water
To climb aboard

Laying back
Taking time
Choosing to go nowhere
With this he is by her side

Twenty-five years later
A photograph
Reeds, and grasses
Grow out of salted water

He is in contemplation
She is placed elsewhere
Neglected, and then
Brought into recovery

Procreate

Lovers in the summer
Parents in the spring
Father & Mother
Of the beautiful child

That summers bring
Sweetest of fruits
Wearing winters ring

Harmonious (strikethrough)

Vacuous, then stunned, awoken
No care for the drumbeat or the piano roll
Broken thoughts, tokens of highland shelters
Where beauty & hardship pass their time together
As if the crime of this music is that it is as discordant
As the notes I make; taking the easy way out
Close down, go under the covers, retreat
Lost & beaten, no need to sweeten

Bilbao

Twist of ham
Sliced in harmony
We ran
Through fish markets
& artists galleries

Can we go again
Though elsewhere
To run
With adventure
By our sides

Tides don’t turn
They ebb & flow
Love may move slower
Than the harmony
Of slicing ham

Yorkshire

The violinist heads out towards infinity
The artist etches The Outliers of the archipelago
The poet writes of the endless depths of his love
Tomorrow, light will rise from the darkness

More than that, every breath
Holds the wheeze of tobacco
In this way each day calmly begins
With a pot of sweetened tea & a bowl of porridge
