Halfway to Sark

A wall
Standing between land and sea
Its height, its depth, its robustness
All those other defining features

The memory forgets the sketch
Instead one retraces on an essence
Of that particular Friday morning

Outside the wind picks up
It is still the time of darkness
I hear the sound of rain
Safe in a warm bed, I daydream

Of flags and pavements
Places, between one and another
Where small birds & children played

Ahead of us then
Sights of happiness, or contentment
Sat on a wall, looking at the boats
Tasting the ice cream

Less complicated than the
Complicated arrangements
The fortifications now to disassemble

Today the day is Wednesday

Eyes opened to the wind

I close my eyes
To think of you
Beaches and blue skies
All those other dreams
That didn’t quite come true

The door opens
A shadow falls
Its fear reminds me
Of empty railway stations
& pointless telephone calls

I listen to the wind
The nights are long
Those friends I introduced
My friends, came back to you
Didn’t they? They came on strong

Coalesce

The you who enters my dreams
Each time a little more perfection
It is true, two, who enter my dreams
Each time more hurt in the resurrection

Beautiful bobs, of burgundy & brunette
Steps taken, set down neatly with divinity
Together slowly, the two of you meet
A debt approaching the depths of infinity

AM

I search a trillion images
Not ever finding one of you
Even Godzilla can't diminish
The mannerisms that I view

Branches are black again
Snow melts all day through
I ache to find your picture
Loving to rummage for you

I merge a thousand words
Untold dedications to you
Evidently there is no finish
To moods I wantonly accrue

Romances are back again
Love smelts in and through
I make to find a simpler verse
Words that capture you anew

As absent as the breath you draw

The anti-gravitational mist rises
Prizes itself from the fields of frozen snow
I didn't mean for you to break my heart
I didn't dream of the reasons to make it so

I didn't ever mean to lose you
I never wanted you to go

The day is as still as your absence
As absent as the breath you draw
I didn't ever mean to lose you
In my schemes I never meant for you to go

I didn't ever mean to lose you
I never wanted you to go

The canal surface settles the reflections
Fringed by the winter white hedgerow
I didn't mean for you to break my heart
I didn't dream of the reasons to make it so

I didn't ever mean to lose you
I never wanted you to go

The day is as still as your absence
As absent as the breath you draw
I didn't ever mean to lose you
In my schemes I never meant for you to go

I didn't ever mean to lose you
I never wanted you to go

The snowflakes that float on the breeze
Crystallised water as the thoughts that flow
I didn't mean for you to break my heart
I didn't dream of the reasons to make it so

I didn't ever mean to lose you
I never wanted you to go

The day is as still as your absence
As absent as the breath you draw
I didn't ever mean to lose you
In my schemes I never meant for you to go

I didn't ever mean to lose you
I never wanted you to go

In my schemes I never meant for you to go
In my dreams I never meant for you to go
In my schemes I never wanted you to go
In my dreams I never wanted you to go

I didn't ever mean to lose you
I never wanted you to go
I didn't ever mean to lose you
I never wanted you to go
