Light Noise

I hear the sounds of the stars
From your night skies
Both near, and distant
My breath bears their gift

In this time
Of peaceful presence
The depths of ambition
Are settled to rest

I taste the fruits, and the spices
From your abundant fields
At home; also during absence
My breath stills their passions

As of now
Before dreams, and waking
The pleasures of being
Thus borne, and given

I see colours, of creations
From your petals; your pigments
Coloured with love, and desire
My breath welcomes all

Afterwards The Morning

Through the white-clouded, blue-skies, to freedom
Leave behind the pink, and purple, grass
Leave behind the working class
Leave behind the midnight mass
Leave behind all that old talk of freedom

I thought of you, and smiled
As I drove, beside the golden-orange hedgerow
It was a memory, of deeper love
From my collective unconscious
Which brought joy into my breath

Sitting in the warm, bright-light, of freedom
Leave behind the anger of delusions
Leave behind the air of confusions
Leave behind the mindful intrusions
Leave behind all that old talk of freedom

I saw your doppelgänger
In my rear view mirror, as I queued, on the motorway
It was a memory, of a fond journey
Into my recent consciousness
Which brought passion to my heart

Drift into the refreshing, silver-grey, rains of freedom
Leave behind the mystery of the myth
Leave behind the waiting for the gift
Leave behind the need to probe the rift
Leave behind all that old talk of freedom

I heard your sensitive, inspirational, music
As a backdrop, to a meditation prayer
It was a memory, of infinite essence
Of time in contemplation, with you
My unique spirit of guidance

Round And Smooth

He encourages me
To let my mind wander
For it to be without
The weight of this body

To move freely
Through space, and time
To reach that place
Of sheer nothingness

I feel myself
Immersed in his words
I am myself
Immersed in meditation

I am nowhere
Without any visualisation
I hear the waves
Although I can see no sea

Then

I am on the beach
With my brother, and family
It is his big birthday
Yes, we were out last night

Earlier, at the house
Everyone swinging from
Scaffolding poles
Posing as one, skylarking

For the camera
I am so happy, to have been
There, for all that we have
Is that which we spontaneously give

The Plum

Five AM
Free from desire
Free from longing
Mind filled
With the sound
Of the bell

Breathe in
Pause
Breathe out

I apologise
For the confusion
I was in need
Of a transfusion
Do not worry
The moment passed

Breathe in
Pause
Breathe out

It is a journey
For the experience
Selfishly undertaken
In search
Of gratitude, forgiveness
Safety, inner peace

Breathe in
Pause
Breathe out

Is my purpose
Of love
Of kindness
Anywhere near
Sufficient
For the truth

Breathe in
Pause
Breathe out

The sound
Of the bell
Time to
Begin again
At the six AM
Alarm call

Breathe in
Pause
Breathe out

Feel the thump
Of the heart beating
Feel the warm journey
Of the in, and the out, breath
Cupped hands laid
On tummies soft sensation

Breathe in
Pause
Breathe out

Observed breath
Is unstable
Breath is happier
Easier, when working
Through unconscious
Yet steady routines

Breathe in
Pause
Breathe out

The first step
Is to have
Unconditional love
For conscious breath
To have belief
As I mindfully try

Breathe in
Pause
Breathe out

My breath
Is calm, quiet
Behind closed eyes
In this newfound
Awareness
There is no fear

Breathe in
Pause
Breathe out

Middle C

You came to me
Carrying, and sharing
Sure signs of your love

What had I done
What had I said
What words had I hopefully written

You came to me
Reclining, and smiling
True designs of your love

Where had we been
Where had we travelled
Where stood those words in my head

You came to me
Evening, and morning
Time consigned to our love

How had we gathered
How had we learnt
How had my words drawn you in

Avista B&B

Here to sit
By reflected leaf
There is no rift
I’ve left my key

In time to come
They will arrive
This is their gift
I have my prize

Late afternoon sky
Over old willow tree
For all but thrift
You can rely on me

The breeze does blow
And the boughs do bend
I’ve no desire to shift
Or for this peace to end

Crass

Everyday realisation
Some do
Some don’t
Some don’t know if they do
Some do know that they don’t

Four categories is sufficient
For those that do
Fore those that don’t
For those that can, or can’t
For those that will, or won’t

You can count them in the supermarket
You can count them on the car boot stall
You can count them at the football ground
Count at the pink champagne, debutantes ball
Even count them sailing, out upon the Sound

You can put yourself among them
Depending on the lightness of your mood
Join in if you are absolutely joyful, stand tall
Connect, even if you are beginning to brood
Or just decide that, yes ‘you are awful’ after all

Unpackaged

Final day
Penultimate Americano
Warm breeze
Clear, clean, promenade
Soon
A dip in the water

Alive to the voices
Grandparents
With skating bambino’s
Alive to the perfumes
The smiles
Of senses sensually massaged

A stride down the path
Later
Clear of doubts
Fresh in air
Last Americano
Prepared for departure

Travellers

The aeroplane heads due south
Into a blue sky
Over the sea’s dark-blue horizon

My concentration is disturbed
Another aeroplane takes off
I turn to watch the new departure

When I turn back
The speck of silver
Which I had been following is gone

I repeat this process
Though I will not repeat it
In the poem

Other than to say
That this is the line up of transitory life
It is the path that many follow

One day you may engage
With the specks of silver
As if they speak of your pastimes

In this present
Of convolute

Palma

We have the gifts
Of the warm breeze of September
Of the carefree promenades
Of the distinctive Americano

With these gifts present
We take time to contemplate
We wake early to meditate
We make ourselves into ourselves

Settlement

In those daydreams
When I dreamt about you
At the virgin viewpoint
With nothing beneath us
Before the journey, of
Many, twisting, turning roads
Down to the town, behind
A dry-moat, and a Roman wall

In those anxious moments
When I turned to you
As if in your prayer
You might meditate
On the numinous paths
Of many variations, back
To the settled homestead
Ahead of all escarpments

Sea, Sky, Cruise Liner

There you are
A swimmer in the sea
Just your head, bobbing
Above the water

The red cross stand by
Aeroplanes fly overhead

I don’t want to be
One of the thousands on board
Though a smaller, more refined
People carrier, well that would be fine

Collective

We sang the song of days
Forever to be strong
We asked our friends to join the ways
To walk with us, on this path along

And in this church of time
The quest is for life sublime
To talk of various lover's lives
Lived joyful, serene, and kind

And where mountain meets the sea
Waves are washed upon the shore
To dream of those once distant clouds
Horizons that change for evermore

The rain washes the mountain

Square

There is a breeze
Which drifts through
The pine trees finer branches

There is a breeze
Which wills the palms leaves
To waft, as a cooling fan

There is a breeze
Which rustles the fine strings
Of ceremonial brocade

Scratch

I have never felt so far from lonely
I have never felt so full of joy
For with you, my dearest darling
I have felt the one, and onliness, of joy

And the waves keep on splashing
And the tide is here to turn
And the music keeps on thrashing
And the road is what we burn

I have been to less than silent places
I have been the glorious decoy
For with you, my dearest darling
I have seen beyond the glorious decoy

And the waves keep on splashing
And the tide is here to turn
And the music keeps on thrashing
And the road is what we burn

I have found that I am nearer grace now
I have found that I am approaching kind
For with you, my dearest darling
I have found a new found way of being kind

Sant Salvador

My window faces
The rising sun
This gift of life
Each day is spun

I hear your footsteps
In my mind
Your gift of peace
Such joy to find

Silent mornings
In my arms
Your gift of love
Brings me calm

I see you pray
You alone
Your gift of time
Carved in stone

My window faces
The setting sun
Your gift of words
Awoken, simply fun

Priest

He asked the big question
Together the congregation said Yes
He also had one other question
Everyone assembled said No

I contemplated
Held a meditation on his words
All the while
I visualised the calm sea behind me

Orienteering

Leather soles
Polished by
Dry, upland grasses

Halfway seat
A silhouette
On a long horizon

Not such
A good sunset
Tonight

A walk
Nonetheless
A new time beginning

Ill prepared, yet
Lost bearings found
Among the dusk of rooks at roost

But such
A good old
Day

Mirador de La Victoria

There is the sea
There is a hill
There is a story
That goats walk on car bonnets
To eat the pine nuts
Which have fallen from the trees

There is the sea
There is a hill
There is a prayer
That to have found this place
Is in itself
A meditation on this earth

There is the sea
There is a hill
There is a human
That offers me a kindness
Who hears my response
Then wishes me well

Intense

My lips were dry
My lips were moist
My lips were wet

And for these lips

My awareness was dry
My awareness was moist
My awareness was wet

And for these thoughts

I plunge into the sea
I swim in the sea
I float in the sea

And for this salty stillness

My lips are dry
My lips are moist
My lips are wet

Good

With this hour
With this life
Take off the spectacles
Contemplate on
A clearer view

Above the pines
Up the mountain’s face
To the sky above, and
Reflect on this blue
Contrast this hue

With the new of the sea
Compare the depth
Of the deep sleep
With the lightness
Of the clear near sky

Meditate on the love of love
The love of this hour
The love of this life
The taste of oiled sardines
The taste of sweet tomatoes

Evening In

I won’t go to the party
I’m not the partying kind
You could ask my ex-girlfriend
I’m sure that she won’t mind

I did once speak after dinner
I was the father of the bride
Nowadays I am much thinner
It’s been an odd sort of ride

The clouds they are steady
The distant children shout
The wasp it almost settles
The couple inspect the house

I won’t be there this evening
I don’t know the social signs
Ask her, known as my previous
She knows all the leverage lines

I did once hold my corner
I put a bully in his place
I am less inclined now to own her
The questions though, they still embrace

Department

First poem of the day
Drinking coffee
Watching the time
Yesterday I was too early

There is twenty-percent off in the sale
Mother, and son, question, then answer
She has searching eyes, he wonders
How will others see me in this

All the window seats are taken
The man behind me, in the queue
A regular it transpires
Reserved his seat before ordering

It was the seat which I had had my eye on, yet
With the calmness of a meditator
I took the sofa furthest from the window
And it seems, with that, a new trend was begun

Away from the sun, away from
Distractions caused by the pedestrians walking by
Steps then taken, back into the shadows
Retreat into the stillness, of quieter times

Coupled

I was excited
Yet also disappointed
I knew that she loved him
Adored him
Besotted with him

I wasn’t so sure though
Of his feelings
He seemed detached
Reticent almost
And then he paid the bill

Insistent

Always with a question
Always
With the same question

Yet never asked
No, never proffered
Hidden so deep

Hidden away
With that great security
Of insecurity

Always with contemplation
Always
With that same meditation

So often fallen
Into
So often fallen out of

Dwell so deep
Dwell with that great time
Of no time at all

House Work

Dust, and sand
Dust behind the doorstop
Donkey stone to clean the steps
To wash the weary thoughts away

I heard the rustle of wind
Through the grasses in the garden
I heard the heartbeat
Of my quietening, barely beating heart

Sand, and dust
Sand in the bare-toed crevices
Wring washing through the rollers
To drain the doubtless doubts away

I heard the chimes
Hanging by the doorpost
I heard the breath
Through my lively, pulsating heart
